Father Valentine sent his love to his maiden shortly before his death, and from there, people have celebrated his death. Although it wasn't initially all about love and buying chocolate and flowers and shite, it did eventually become that.
The spirit of the holiday has changed to celebrate doing something special for the person you like (and nothing's more special than sending a shout out to your special someone just before your death).
So, don't hate the holiday, don't hate the love, don't hate the consumerism or the untold number of chocolates, cards, and heart shaped neco wafers with messages that have evolved into our current internet and phone dialect. Instead, follow the spirit of the holiday and do something special. If it's someone you like, find something creative to do with them.
Here's the USUAL list of stuff people do:
-Chocolate, sweets, cards, roses, etc.
-Dinner, movie, going out somewhere
-"Romantic getaway", cruise, vacation somewhere for the really special someone
Now here's some of the things I'd have loved to do:
-Various mountains around here offer a great view. Awesome spot for a first (or memorable if not first) kiss.
-Good ol fashion picnic
-Love letter. Put it in their mailbox and drive away. MUAAHHAHA YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME! But seriously, who actually hand-writes letters anymore?
Just a couple of retarded ideas. Most of my ideas revolve around finding another place with a great view or a quiet, lovely place with some seclusion. But I know there's some smart, creative people, especially here on dA. Do something special for someone special.

"This is insulting. Obviously, if you get up and walk, you're Kira. If you take the cake in anyway shape or form you're Kira, because only Kira would want to take my cake. The only answer is to roll in the other direction and buy cake elsewhere."
